How To Wear When You Are Over 50
23 December
Hi, this is Morimiss fashion sharing time. Today we're going to talk about clothing etiquette for women over 50. When you reach your fifties and beyond, it can be a really exciting time in your life and you're probably feeling really grounded about other aspects of your life whether it's your career, your family and you're really comfortable with yourself but your style and your wardrobe might not be keeping up. You might be questioning whether certain trends are right for your body, you might be wondering which brands and designers to look towards, it can be really confusing. But if you keep a few things in mind you'll be able to really navigate those waters and let your style shine through.
So three things I emphasize for women over 50: our style fit and fabric. The style of your clothes has to be classic, this is not a time to experiment with really trendy cuts. You want the style to really stand the test of time and highlight your body and just be super classic and tailored with the fit along the same lines you want everything to fit you beautifully. If this means incorporating the help of a professional tailor then so be it is going to be worth it. You want your clothes to flatter your body- not look too tight and not be too loose and baggy and flowy. Lastly, the fabric is something that should be of really great quality, which means you might need to spend a little bit more on fabric but it's going to be worth it in the long run. You want things to last, you want the fabric to flatter yourself and you want everything to just have a little bit more of an elevated feel.
So here we have an example of a great outfit for a woman 50 or beyond. We're playing with completely classic silhouettes and just adding pops of color and accents within those. We start with a classic pair of black/navy blue natural cotton linen pants: We add on this amazing vintage coat which is just so elegant and full of charm, but it's still in that classic style so it's going to be flattering on your body. Next, we accessorize with the gray clutch, now this clutch is again in a classic form , but the color just elevates it and makes it a little more fun.

- Clothes to suit your body shape.
- Skin show to a minimum.
- Avoid sheer clothes, except as a layer on top.
- Avoid crop tops, muffin tops etc.
- Wear hosiery with skirts, if the legs are not in good shape, or have varicose veins etc.
- The length of the shirts should at least cover the hips.
- Have a signature style, rather than following the latest trends.
- Avoid dark shades of lippers, like plum, wine, maroon etc. Pop colors are fine, if they suit your skin tone and the occasion.
- Wear eye shadows in beige/brown/copper/gold, rather than blue or green.
- Use a primer below the makeup, to even out the skin tone.
- Choose the spectacle frames according to face shape, and use a classy eye-glass neck strap, if it suits your personality.
- Use matte gold, silver, diamond and platinum jewellery in small, dainty designs on the neck and ears.
- Statement finger rings and bracelets can be used.
- Remember that the jewellery will highlight the skin around it, and that needs to be in good shape. For example, a heavy necklace or choker might highlight the lines around the mouth, or a double chin. To draw attention away from it, either wear a long chain with an interesting pendant, or skip the neckwear.
- Needless to say, remain regular with your skin care and parlour facials routine. Invest more on skincare products, rather than make-up.
