Summer plaid was... a learning curve. I used to think flannel was the only way to do plaid (I know, I know). Then I discovered cotton plaid dresses and it was like, "Where have you been all my life?!"

My go-to now? This flowy plaid shirt dress that I probably wear way too often. Sometimes I throw it over a tank and shorts when I can't figure out what to wear. It's like my fashion security blanket, but make it cute.

Pro tip from someone who learned the hard way: linen plaid is your friend when it's hot. Trust me on this one.

Winter: When Plaid Actually Makes Sense

Winter is where I really shine, plaid-wise. I've got this tartan coat that makes me feel like I'm in a cozy British movie, even when I'm just going to Target.

My favorite lazy-day combo? Plaid flannel over literally anything warm. Sometimes I wear it as a jacket, sometimes as a shirt. The beauty of plaid is that it kinda works either way? At least that's what I tell myself.

Oh, and plaid scarves! Game changer. They make any boring coat look intentional. I have about five and I'm not sorry.

However, if you want a laid-back vibe, a pair of sneakers can instantly translate the office look into daily causal.

The plaid shirt is the perfect base for any women who don't want to spend time going through their wardrobe every day. You can team it with tapered pants and make your shirt tucked in to get a streamlined silhouette. Or half tuck it for creating a chic but casual vibe with a hint of sophistication. 

B. Plaid Shirt+ Jeans 

An easy way to style your plaid shirt is to wear it with jeans. Both wear it oversized or slim-fitting would never go wrong.

When did the qipao come to prominence?

Qipao, also known as cheongsam, is a traditional Chinese garment that originated in Shanghai since 1920. A well-made qipao is usually tight-fitting, which completely fits well on the wearer's body and flatters the individual woman's frame. 

Qipao can be ankle length or midi length, long sleeves or short sleeves, thigh-slits or calf-slits, depending on the different shapes of the body and the requirement of the wearers. 

In the realm of oriental style, the qipao has undergone numerous modern improvements and interpretations, making it easier to incorporate into everyday wear. Whether you prefer a traditional or loose-fitting design, this Chinese garment can be styled to suit any figure. A. Ectomorph

Ectomorph is a slender, linear physique. Women with this body type have a greater tendency to have long arms and legs, small shoulders, checks, and buttocks than the other body types. Generally speaking, a straight-cut qipao with a more ankle length or mid-calf length which does not emphasize the body curve too much is quite flattering. Plus, this length provides a more elongated silhouette. 

And if you want something sexy,  try the front slits or thigh slits to the equation to instantly jazz up the outfits. Finally, in the choice of sleeves, either 3/4 sleeves or fitted cap sleeves are good to show off your long arms. 

B. Mesomorph

Unlike ectomorphs, mesomorphs are athletic, strong, powerful, and fast. They tend to have broad/ square shoulders, long torso, and short limbs. To foster strengths and circumvent weaknesses, consider wearing qipao that is above the knee and more or less A-line. This kind of Qipao is extremely figure-hugging, which perfectly fits well on mesomorphs.

C. Endomorph

Endomorph women have a shapely body, they also seem to have small shoulders, high waist, and large hips, creating a pear-shaped physique. For those women, loose-fitting dresses are appropriate since they has much more areas to allow for movement. 

In addition, I find that silk, ramie, or linen qipao is an ideal choice for endomorphs, especially during the summer days. You can easily find that these fabrics are breathable and air-cooling, which adds extra comfort and ease.

In traditional culture, qipao or cheongsams are wearing in Chinese new year. But for now, a qipao can be worn on different occasions. For our everyday wear, choose the modern one that is made of cotton, linen, or chiffon and no longer lined will be quite good for a more casual and lighter look. While silk, velvet, or lace tend to be appropriate for a dressy and formal occasion. With the embroidery, bead, and sequin details, it can add a bit more traditional glamour to your Qipao look. 

3. Tips for Shoes 

If you are not sure how to pick the appropriate shoes to match your qipao, high heels or pumps never go wrong for an elegant and refined look. 

But for the casual and modern qipao,  flats, boots, or sneakers are an easy and savvy option to complete this outfit together.
