What Is Modest Fashion and Why Are More Women Choosing It?
Modest fashion, also referred to as modest dressing, generally pertains to a fashion trend among women who choose to wear clothes that reveal less skin, often stemming from their spiritual and religious beliefs or their own individual preferences. Typically, modest garments feature long sleeves, higher necklines, a loose-fitting silhouette, and maxi lengths, providing ample coverage and avoiding the display of a woman's body contours.

Why is it spreading? It's Not Just About Religion Anymore
There isn't one reason modest fashion is growing. It's more like four things happening at once.
Younger Muslim women want both — they're not choosing between faith and style, they're expecting both to coexist. And designers are finally catching up. More Muslim designers are building their own brands and selling directly online, which means they're no longer waiting for mainstream retailers to carry them.
Then there's social media. Influencers like Dian Pelangi (5M+ followers) didn't just show that hijab style could be beautiful — they built a whole reference library of it. Scroll her Instagram for five minutes and you'll have more outfit ideas than you can use.
And mainstream brands noticed. Mango, ASOS, Nike — they've all dropped modest lines at this point. When the big players follow, it usually means the market got too big to ignore.

The Paris show got a lot of people asking: why does modest fashion need its own week? Why isn't it just... part of fashion week?
Honestly, that's the right question to be asking. One person in the discussion said she hoped this eventually gets folded into the main shows, not as a special category, but just as clothes. That's probably where this ends up. But we're not there yet, and in the meantime, having a dedicated platform meant 30 designers got press, got buyers, got seen.
Whether you wear hijab or not, whether you cover for faith or just because you run cold, the point is the same: fashion should have room for what you actually want to wear.
