8 Dressing Tips for Chubby Women

I always get a ton of questions about how to dress for a chubby body type from my readers. Unlike those who have a slender shape, most of the chubby women or plus size women generally think they have many limitations when it comes to dressing. Today,  I rounded up 8 dressing tips for all the chubby women to help them accentuate their features and make them look better and feel more confident than ever. Here we go!


 1. Opt for V-Neck or Square Collar 

Chubby women probably carry most of their weight in the upper body, so it’s important to trick the eyes to see a slimmer busto. Clothes with V-neck or square neck are quite effective to slim your face and visually elongate your neckline, which helps to create a balance in your entire combo.

2. Puff  Sleeve is a Must

If you have broad shoulders and large arms, then you'll find the puff sleeve is an ideal style to camouflage your flats and create an illusion of a slimmer arm. Opt for the tightening design of the wrist can appear narrower at the top. But remember to stay away from the shoulder pads and wide scoop that will add more volume to your shoulders and makes your upper body look wider than it really is.

3.  Try Wide Leg Pants/ Jeans 

If leg fats are your main concern, feel free to style the wide leg pants or jeans to conceal your fat. To lengthen your leg lines, wear the high-rise style and a crop top or tuck in your top to bring out a good proportion.

Do not select clothes that are too tight or small on you because they will both make the figure more prominent and even uncomfortable to wear.

4. Try Baggy Boyfriend Jeans / Mom Jeans

Another alternative for the chubby women is high waisted boyfriend jeans or mom jeans—with an inverted triangle cut, baggy-fit, and high-rise design, they surely help section your body in a natural way. Also, tuck your top in is a major plus for a streamlined and cleaner look.

 5. Remember to Tuck in Your Top 

As I mentioned above, tuck-in clothes are effective to halve your body and easy to achieve the 2/3 ratio. The trick is going for an oversized top to simply get the comfort and give more room to stretch yourself.

6. Try Diagonal or Vertical Lines 

Diagonal and vertical lines can emphasize the length and downplay the width so that makes your body look taller and slimmer. If you have a large bust and board shoulders, opt for the vertical striped top while if you are fat on the lower body, the striped pants /overalls will be good on you. Also, for those who don't want to spend lots of time going through your wardrobe, a vertical striped dress is the most flattering option.

7. Wear the Right Colors 

Darker tones, such as black, navy blue, which can minimize the volume while lighter colors can maximize the fat. So you need to wear the colors properly to highlight your positives and downplay your negatives. The following examples show you how to combine these two different color tones according to your body type to get a harmonious level of curves.

8. Take Advantage of Accessories 

Remember, a belt is always good to bright out your waist and extend your leg length. Avoid wide belts since they will add more volume to your waist region. You can also choose the knot front dress / tied dress so that you don't need to think about how to choose the right belt to match your whole look. Other accessories, such as a scarf, statement bag, drop earrings, or long necklace are helpful to take the focus away from your imperfect parts and complete the look as well.
