What to Wear to Sunday Brunch: 12 Casual & Classy Outfit Ideas for Summer
July 08, 2023
Last Updated: 2026-07-08
There's a particular kind of morning I look forward to every summer. Brunch is the only plan, and getting dressed for it is half the fun. I've rebuilt this list more times than I can count, mostly because what feels right changes depending on the year, the weather, even the restaurant. This version is the one I'd actually reach for right now.
A few of these are the classics I come back to every June. A few are newer, things I picked up last summer and haven't stopped wearing since. None of them require much thought once you know the formula.
Your Guide to Effortless Brunch Style
1. The Classic Sundress: My Go-To for a Sunday Brunch Outfit
If I only had one piece to recommend for a Sunday brunch outfit, it would be this. A cotton or linen sundress does the work a whole outfit usually takes. No matching, no second-guessing, and it breathes in a way synthetic fabrics just don't.
I tend to go for something in a soft floral or a pastel wash, midi length so it moves well but doesn't get in the way of a chair.
Style Vibe: Feminine, unfussy, a little rom-com.
- Dress: Pastel or floral cotton/linen midi sundress
- Footwear: Flat espadrilles if there's walking involved, low block heels if the restaurant is nicer
- Accessories: Woven straw tote, small gold hoops
Loose waves and minimal makeup finish it. This isn't the outfit that needs a full face.
If you've got a vineyard trip on the calendar too, most of these sundresses cross over well. I go into more detail in our Summer Winery Outfits guide.

2. Boho Brunch Outfit: Romantically Bohemian
Some mornings call for something looser. A chiffon maxi dress in an earthy tone, maybe with a lace trim, is what I'd wear when a strict silhouette feels like too much effort.
Style Vibe: Free spirited, textured, unhurried.
Outfit Formula:
- Dress: Chiffon maxi in earth tones, subtle print or lace detail
- Footwear: Leather slides
- Accessories: Layered gold necklaces, oversized sunglasses, wide brimmed hat
The hat isn't just an accessory here. It's doing actual work if brunch has an outdoor patio.
3. Jumpsuit for Brunch: The One and Done Option
I didn't wear jumpsuits for years, mostly out of habit, then a friend showed up in a linen one and I understood the appeal immediately. One piece, zero decisions, and it looks more put together than it should for the effort involved.
Style Vibe: Clean, minimal, quietly confident.
Outfit Formula:
- Jumpsuit: Tencel or linen, relaxed fit
- Belt: Thin belt at the waist to define shape
- Footwear: Strappy flat sandals
4. Classy Brunch Outfit: Wide Leg Pants for When You Want to Look Grown Up
This is what I wear when I want the outfit to suggest I have things more together than I actually do. Wide leg trousers in linen or silk read as sophisticated without trying very hard.
Style Vibe: Polished, composed, a little formal without being stiff.
Outfit Formula:
- Bottoms: High waisted wide leg linen or silk trousers
- Top: Sleeveless blouse, tucked in
- Footwear & Bag: Flat mules, structured leather shoulder bag
I'd skip the heels here. The trousers already do the elevating.
5. Boho Chic Separates: Another Take on the Boho Brunch Look
This is where I mix textures more than I probably should. An embroidered peasant blouse with high waisted shorts or a flowing skirt, crochet or lace details layered in.
Style Vibe: Eclectic, a little more experimental.
Outfit Formula:
- Top: Embroidered peasant blouse
- Bottoms: High waisted shorts or a flowing skirt
- Footwear & Accessories: Gladiator sandals, layered bangles, fringed bag

6. Trendy Brunch Outfit: Professional But Fun
A loose blazer over tailored shorts or culottes is the outfit I reach for when brunch is squeezed between something more formal. It reads capable without reading corporate.
Style Vibe: Smart casual, low effort that looks like more effort than it was.
Outfit Formula:
- Blazer: Loose fit, neutral or pastel
- Bottoms: Tailored shorts or culottes
- Top & Footwear: Simple cami underneath, sleek mules
7. Casual Brunch Outfit: Denim Days
Some Sundays, denim is just what feels right, and there's no reason to overthink it. A loose denim dress or a lightweight denim jumpsuit keeps things easy without looking underdressed.
Style Vibe: Casual cool, unbothered.
Outfit Formula:
- Base: Loose denim dress or lightweight denim jumpsuit
- Footwear: Wedges for a dressier take, or clean white sneakers for a truly casual one
Yes, jeans work fine for a casual brunch too. High waisted straight leg or white denim, paired with an embroidered blouse and leather slides, keeps it summer appropriate rather than heavy.
8. Trendy Brunch Outfit: Playful Polka Dots
I have a genuine weakness for polka dots, and a flowy chiffon dress in the print still feels like the easiest way to look intentional without trying.
Style Vibe: Vintage leaning, a little playful.
Outfit Formula:
Dress: Chiffon polka dot, classic black and white or a bolder colorway
Footwear & Accessories: Block heels, headband, cat eye sunglasses

9. Summer Brunch Outfit: Tropical Vibes
Palm prints and Hawaiian leaning patterns put me in a different mood entirely. This is the one I wear when brunch feels more like the start of a vacation than a Sunday errand.
Style Vibe: Vacation mode, print forward.
Outfit Formula:
Base: Palm or Hawaiian print dress or set
Accessories: Statement earrings or a bold lip. Keep the rest simple so the print leads.
10. Boho Brunch Dress: Effortlessly Boho, Take Two
A loose crochet or lace dress, lightweight enough to move in, is the version of boho I reach for when the first one (see #2) feels too involved.
Style Vibe: Free spirited, breezy, low maintenance.
Outfit Formula:
- Dress: Crochet or lace, lightweight fabric
- Footwear: Suede ankle boots or strappy sandals
- Accessories: Layered delicate necklaces, floppy hat, straw bag
11. Classy Sunday Brunch: Monochrome Magic
When I genuinely can't decide what to wear, monochrome solves it. A loose blouse and matching trousers or culottes in one shade, white, beige, or black, reads sophisticated without any real effort.
Style Vibe: Sleek, considered, quietly confident.
Outfit Formula:
- Top & Bottoms: Loose blouse with trousers or culottes, same neutral tone
- Belt: Statement belt, or tuck the top to define the waist
- Footwear & Accessories: Minimalist heels or slides, gold jewelry
12. Classy Brunch Outfit: Effortless Elegance
A silk or linen shirt dress is basically foolproof. Neutral tones or soft pastels feel so elegant. Cinch it with a contrasting belt (game-changer!), add some mules, and carry a structured bag. This is perfect when you want to look polished without trying too hard.
A silk or linen shirt dress in a neutral or soft pastel is close to foolproof. This is the one I'd wear if I only had five minutes to get dressed and still needed to look like I'd planned it.
Style Vibe: Polished without looking like it took effort.
Outfit Formula:
- Dress: Silk or linen shirt dress
- Belt: Contrasting belt at the waist
- Footwear & Bag: Mules, structured bag
Look, the truth is, summer brunch dressing should be fun, not stressful! The key is finding what makes YOU feel confident and comfortable. Because honestly, when you feel good, you look good - and that's way more important than following any fashion rules!
FAQ - Because I Know You're Wondering!
Q: What if it's really hot outside?
A: Linen and cotton are your best friends! Avoid synthetic fabrics that don't breathe. And honestly? There's no shame in bringing a little fan or choosing the shaded outdoor seating.
Q: Can I wear white to brunch?
A: Girl, YES! Summer is literally white's time to shine. Just maybe avoid it if you're planning to eat berries or drink red sangria... learned that the hard way!
Q: What about shoes - heels or flats?
A: Depends on your venue! Rooftop with uneven surfaces? Definitely flats or block heels. Trendy café with smooth floors? Wear whatever makes you happy! Your feet will thank you either way.
Q: What if I'm not sure about the dress code?
A: When in doubt, ask your host or check the venue's Instagram. Most summer brunches are pretty casual, but it's better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed!
