Summer is officially yelling “BBQ TIME!” and I spent way too long last weekend standing in front of my closet already sweating, trying to figure out what to wear to my neighbor’s cookout. I have a vintage-inspired Indian block-print one in lilac that I’ve worn to probably six events this summer and nobody’s called me out yet. Flat sandals only. Wide Leg linen pants are breathable and provide a relaxed, breezy fit. Pair them with a simple t-shirt or a lightweight blouse. 

Slightly heavier textured pants with a softer, finer button-down on top. Different weights read intentional. Half-tuck or loose French tuck so there’s actually a waist somewhere. Cognac belt, oversized tortoiseshell sunglasses, layered gold necklaces to give the whole thing some weight. Done right, this is one of the best summer looks out there.

5. The One-Piece Wonder!

Some days my brain genuinely cannot handle putting an outfit together. Those days exist.

A relaxed jumpsuit or romper in Tencel or modal solves it—one zip and you’re styled. Soft elastic or adjustable drawcord waist so it defines a little but still stretches when you go back for seconds (and thirds, no judgment). 

Floral, stripes, solid, whatever. Comfy sandals or slip-ons. Functional and done.

6. Skirt Situation.

I’ve been living in high-waisted midi skirts with a simple top tucked in. Feels more put-together than shorts but still comfortable. And if you end up sitting on grass, your thighs aren’t sticking to anything.

Breezy fabric, fitted crop or tank on top. Low wedges or flat sandals. Easy.

7. The Wildcard - Cute Overalls!

If you prefer more coverage, a baggy overalls can be a great alternative. Look for one in a breathable material with a cinched waist to highlight your figure.

8. Gingham Co-ord Matching Set

Matching sets are the cheat code because someone already decided these pieces go together.

Gingham is having a real moment in 2026—not the tiny checks from ten years ago, but jumbo squares, bolder, more fun. Classic blue and white, red, soft yellow. Ruffled tank with wide-leg trousers looks completely intentional and takes about four seconds to put on.

Sun Protection Stuff:

Hat. Sunglasses. Sunscreen that doesn’t smell like pool chemicals. Wide-brim straw hat and oversized statement sunnies do double duty—they protect you and make even the simplest outfit look like you thought about it.

Bag Strategy:

You need both hands free. Plate in one, cold drink in the other, maybe a skewer at some point. Crossbody or canvas market tote. Leave the clutch at home. I brought one once and my boyfriend ended up holding it the entire evening while I ate. Not his best day.
